The School of Music hires a panel of three judges for these competitions—professionals not associated with AB—in order to provide students objective performance feedback and to insure an experience that most closely resembles the audition procedures they will encounter in their future professions. This year the adjudicators selected the five winners from those who auditioned.
Those adjudicators were Dr. David Bess, Associate Professor of Music and former Chair, Division of Music, West Virginia University; Mr. James Kenon Mitchell, Assistant Conductor for the CoOPERAtive Program and former Adjunct Professor of Musical Theater at the University of West Florida as well as Director for Tri-Cities Opera and Opera Forza; and Mr. Carl Hess, DMA Candidate in conducting at James Madison University and former Assistant Professor at Duquesne University and Interim Director of Instrumental Studies, Bridgewater College.
