Dear AB Family,
Our priority is the health and well-being of the AB community, and we are immediately focused on ensuring our students are safe and in a position to continue their academic careers successfully.
In order to deliver on our mission while protecting our students, Alderson Broaddus University will be taking the following actions:
- AB will suspend face-to-face classes and transition to virtual learning. Beginning Monday, March 23, instruction will be virtual for the remainder of spring semester. The faculty are currently working to transition all courses for remote learning. Students will be receiving additional information from instructors in the coming days. All students should check AB email frequently.
- Students will not be required to come to our campuses for instruction or exams for the remainder of this semester. Exceptions will be made only for certain clinical experiences or fieldwork in which students are actively serving patients or clients. Academic leaders from those programs will be contacting students with specific information.
- Residential students are required to move out as soon as possible, and by no later than Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at 12 noon. A self-check-out procedure will be utilized to make the move-out process as flexible and convenient as possible. Students who are unable to move out must receive approval to remain on campus by contacting the Office of Student Affairs at studentaffairs@ab.edu. Only those who meet the following criteria will be allowed to remain:
- International Students
- Those who have student-teacher, clinical, and/or internship placements (as confirmed by Academic Affairs)
- Students for whom AB is their permanent address and have no other housing options
Sodexo food service will remain active for students remaining on campus.
- This year’s commencement date of May 10, is postponed. We know that this is very disappointing to many, and we are looking at ways to celebrate 2020 graduates in the future.
- All other University-related events have been canceled.
- Campus offices will remain open to serve students and families remotely, including academic advising and personal counseling.
- For any personal counseling services, contact counselingservices@ab.edu.We understand that many questions and details are surrounding the transition to virtual instruction and other topics regarding the end of the semester. We are working through these important questions and will share information as we have it. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.
Please know that the overriding reason behind these decisions is to do everything we can to preserve the health and safety of all members of the AB campus and our local community. We recognize the challenges presented by this rapidly changing situation and continue to evaluate the impacts of the COVID-19 situation.
